The Art of Nourishment: Solo Photography Exhibition by Babita Shrestha

LexArts is proud to present The Art of Nourishment, a transformative solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist and culinary practitioner Babita Shrestha. Opening on July 17, 2026, this immersive experience explores the intersection of Himalayan culture, female labor, and ancestral reclamation.

The Art of Nourishment reimagines imagery from Babita’s award-winning cookbooks, Plant-Based Himalaya:Vegan Recipes From Nepal and Garden Exotica:International Plant-based Fusion Cuisine, transforming them into large-scale fine art prints. By elevating the everyday labor of the kitchen to the public gallery, this exhibition demands recognition of the creative and intellectual contributions of women's work that history has often undervalued.

The collection functions as a portal to a worldview where agriculture, spirituality, and daily life are intertwined. Through these portraits, Babita honors the kitchen hearth as a sacred space of historical preservation, where generations of women have passed down oral traditions, heritage recipes, and earth knowledge. By positioning women as the foundational guardians of biodiversity and nutrition, the artist transforms the plate into a vital canvas for food justice and social change.

The exhibition incorporates multi-sensory elements, including aromatic displays of fresh spices and interactive culinary tastings and soundscape to make this exhibition a once in a lifetime experience. The sensory exhibit is only on July 17th.

This exhibition is made possible in part through the support of a LexArts Individual Artist Grant and the Kentucky Foundation for Women’s Artist Enrichment Grant.
